Thanks you for this engrossing piece about calculus.

Taking nothing away from Alan Turing, the Japanese Purple Code was broken by the American William Friedman, and the German code by his wife, Elisabeth Smith Friedman, saving the lives of 8000 American soldiers and 2000 Brits aboard the Queen Mary. It's a fascinating story. Unfortunately, much of Elisabeth's work was classified and not public knowledge until long after her death.
