I’m just glad anti-vaxxers weren’t around when he developed his vaccine. We’d probably still be dealing with smallpox infections.

Unfortunately, the anti-vaxxers were around and riots in England followed mandatory vaccination for smallpox. Jefferson and Washington were pro-vaccination. Washington had his whole army vaccinated, but it wasn't generally accepted among the general populace.
